There are two major ways to make soap and these are the soap making hot process and cold process. The hot process of making soap has been an ancient practice in soap making. All that is required in this process is to put all the ingredients required for soap making together in a pot and apply heat. The major difference between this method and the cold process method is the continuous application of heat to cook the soap. This process of cooking quickens the process of soap formation and produces harder soap bar faster than cold process method.

When you start the soap making hot process, you will not have so much time on your side to start any impromptu planning. You should therefore, be ready with all ingredients and tools that you will need. You should have all your safety facilities like your hand gloves, your facemask, your floor and table covers ready. Water, crock pot, spoon, mould, weighing scale, knife and other equipment should be available.

The ingredients should be measured out based on the recipe you have chosen. You may want to make do with just few additives to start with. As you improve your soap making skill, you can decide to include other ingredients. Put on your face mask, gloves and goggles. You can also put on a long sleeve clothing to protect your hand. You can now measure the Lye pour it gently into water stirring it at the same time. You have to stir until the Lye is completely dissolved in the water. Always remember that Lye is what should be added to water and not the other way round.

Pour the measure fat into the crock pot and allow it to melt. At this point gently pour the lye solution into the pot of oils and continue to stir. This requires a steady stirring of the mixture. The mixture as you continue to stir will turn creamy and then opaque. Keep stirring until the mixture begins to thicken or trace. The moment the soap gets to this point put the lid on the pot and leave to cook for a while. The soap will begin to turn clear like Vaseline gel look. When the soap turns to this look it is time to test to confirm if it is ready.

Now you can add the colour and fragrance of choice to the soap mixture. After this, you can add your choice essential oils. You may need to quickly do all these so that the soap mixture does not cool to the point it becomes difficult to get out of the pot into the mould. You will have to scoop the mixture out of the pot since it will be thick like custard. Tap the mould to make sure that any trapped air is released. Allow the soap to cool and cut it after removing it from the mould into desired shapes and sizes. The process requires almost every minute attention as the mixture will remain on the pot throughout the process. It is also not possible to use this technique to teach children as it is dangerous and delicate. However, unlike the cold process of making soap the soap making hot process produces soap in a ready to use format.
